This is a solidly built device, and has the impression it will last well if looked after. It was easy to construct, taking about 40 minutes. The metal contacts on the handle bars allow your heart rate to be monitoried, so if this is important to you you may find this useful.
Overall the device appears to be value for money. There is one area where it is sadly deficient, and that is in the instructions. Once built, there are notes on how to use the programmable computer. But they are so terse, and appear to have been written by a non-native English speaker (pacific-rim English springs to mind) that they take some effor to decipher.
So if you choose to by this device these are my notes and you may find they help. [The notes would look better if Amazon would let you format the comments; but hey ho! All the indentation is lost, so apologies for that. Tabs just don't work -- how crap is that?]
Note
This device needs a mains connection. There is a 'wall wart' mains adapter that plugs into the back of the device and allows the computer to work. You cannot change the resistance levels without the computer.

Display
The display shows the following across the top:
* Start Starts the workout
* Stop Terminates the workout
* Program number (see below)
* Level A higher value increasing the resistance of the bike. There are
16 levels of resistance. See the effort bars (as I call them)
described below
* Female Used by program 8
* Male Used by program 8
Next are ten columns of horizontal bars. (Effort bars?) As you work through your workout the display will move from one to the next. This allows you to alter the resistance of the bike through your workout. The machine has 16 levels of resistance, so each bar represents two levels of resistance.

At the bottom are six values. These are:
* Time (also used for height and weight in program 8)
* RPM or average speed (in kph or mph)
* An odometer (distance)
* Calories or Watts
* Target heart rate (program 9) or BMI/age (program 8)
* Average heart rate (or body type for program 8)
The average heart rate is determined from the sensors on the handle bars. Hold these as you exercise, and if the handle bars are plugged into the computer when the system detects a pulse the little heart symbol in this section will flash.

Notice the gender symbol at the top right (female and male). This is used
to compute the values body fat percent, basal metabolism ratio, and body
mass index.
You first need to set the three values for height (in cm) weight (in kg)
and age (in years). The default values for each are 175cm for height,
75kg for weight, and 30 for age.
Move between each of these values with the up and down keys, and fix it
with the SET key.

Once these three values are set, press the ST/SP (start/stop) key. Then
hold the two hand pulse grips and wait 15 seconds. The three values of
body fat percent, BMR and BMI will be displayed.
It will also display body type. This is a number between 1 and 9. Each
value has the following meanings:
Type Fat% (min and max)
1 5 9
2 10 14
3 15 19
4 20 24
5 25 29
6 30 34
7 35 39
8 40 44
9 45 50
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program 9 Target heart rate
This is used to set a target heart rate. You can either set the time or
the distance parameter, but not both. Set your target heart rate -- ie
how hard you want your heart to work. Once you press start, the machine
will detect your heart rate via the handle bar monitor. If the rate it
detects varies from the rate you have set by 5% (either it is 5% below
or 5% above) it will automatically alter the resistance to get your heart
working back to the target value.
This will continue until the time you have set, or the distance you have
'travelled' has completed. Remember you can't set both.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program 10 Heart rate control program
This works as in program 9. In this case the target heart rate (if I
understand the terse instructions correctly) is 60% of the value computed
by taking your age from 220. So if you are 30 this will be 60% of 220-30
which is 60% of 190 or 114. If you are 50 it will be 102.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program 11 Heart rate control program
As in programe 10, but the percentage is 75. So for 30 year olds the
target heart rate is 143, and for a 50 year old bod it is 128.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program 12 Heart rate control program
As in programe 10, but the percentage is 85. So for 30 year olds the
target heart rate is 162, and for a 50 year old bod it is 145.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program 13 User program
You can set each of the parameters to whatever you wish. This option
gives you the full flexibility of using the device.
Once these three values are set, press the ST/SP (start/stop) key. Then
