Note: This laptop does not include an integrated optical disk drive, but you can connect an optional CD/DVD drive using one of its USB ports.
You can't compare this to the latest Samsung 9 for instance but for an ultrabook under 00 this has to be the best available (ignoring the newer Z935 which is almost the same but with a faster processor and SSD)
FEATHERWEIGHT at 2.4lbs! Don't underestimate this. You can really tell the difference compared to even the 3lb competition. Only the newest Samsung 9 comes close and that is expensive. Thin and light - isn't that the point of ultrabooks?
And Toshiba managed to fit in a full range of ports, an sd slot and towards the top of class battery life. Wow.
Let me address your concerns about this ultrabook:
SSD - the one I bought has a much faster SSD than the ones in the early online reviews. Toshiba must have switched them out with faster ones now. It is as good as most other budget SSD ultrabooks on the market. The Z935 is faster but I doubt many people will notice the difference. Windows takes 20-25 seconds to boot up.Dell XPS X17L-2250SLV , Samsung Series 3, Satellite L755-S5169 , Sony VPCSE2DGX/B, Lenovo ThinkPad X130e, HP dv6-6c10us, Acer AS7750G-6645, Acer Aspire AS5755-6699, Sony SVE14112FXP, Thinkpad X220, Acer AS4830T-6403, Asus X53ERS51, Lenovo U300s, Lenovo Y570, Acer Aspire AS5560-7402, Apple Macbook Air, ASUS U46E-RAL7, Acer AS5749Z-4809 , Lenovo Ideapad Z370, Sony VAIO VPCYB35KX/P, Dell Inspiron 11z , ASUS U36SD-DH51, Compaq CQ62-410US, Lenovo G575 , HP dv6-6c50us, LENOVO THINKPAD T520, Sony VAIO VPCEG36FX/W, Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T901, Sony EL2 VPCEL22FX/B, ASUS U32U-ES21, Alienware AM14X-6667BK, Satellite P775-S7368, Acer Aspire AS8951G-9630, Lenovo G770, Lenovo IdeaPad U260, ASUS N56VZ-ES71, ASUS A53SV-EH71, Toshiba C655-S5225, Satellite L745-S4126, Dell i15RN-3647BK, Sony SVE14116FXW, Samsung Series 9, Apple MacBook Air, Lenovo G570, Apple Macbook Pro
Fan - The 1.6 bios which was already loaded on my z835 which makes the ultrabook quiet pretty much all the time. It hardly ever turns on under normal load. You can even install Speedfan (a free application - just google it) which gives control of the fan. A once irritating issue solved.
Screen - It is an ultrabook and it is thin. I doubt a moderately careful person would break it. If you are a student throwing it into your bag then I imagine you'll crack it easily. However most people should be fine. I am fine with it.
i3 - Speeds through normal tasks without lag. Good enough for most.
Keyboard - It has stiff keys with little travel out of the box but once you've had it for a week it soften up just enough to be good to type on. It is a nice keyboard in my opinion.

This is a regular and solidly performing trackpad with proper buttons.
What I would change: The screen quality - Colors wash away quickly as you move from the centre and tilt the screen. However it isn't terrible and matches the rest in the class for quality. I just wish the class was better. I like the resolution personally.
A bit drab - compared to say the Asus Zenbook or Samsung 9. Still it isn't ugly.
Better multitouch gestures. They work okay but only okay. One finger scrolling is nice and much better than two finger scrolling on this trackpad. There is no two finger tap for right click. Other trackpads are stronger here. I don't use the rest much. Pinch zoom seems good. If you want a faster processor and ssd then the newer Z935 will be better. However I personally would save the 0-300 and get this one.
