Took off one star because I think the mouse buttons on the pad are rather uncomfortable ... first of all you can click the buttons ONLY in the very center of the pad ... if you try to push on the outer edge of the button or even in the middle, it won't click or register ... so even tho each button is almost two inches long, the clickable area is about half an inch ...
It's kind of stupid, I have no idea whose design this was... though I guess it depends how you hold the laptop. I like lying down with it on my lap, so it's annoying for me to go digging somewhere in the vicinity of my crotch just to find a clickable area every time considering the buttons are flush with the rest of the pad, so unless you're staring right at it, you have no idea where they are .. but i suspect I'll get a hang of it eventually ...

This laptop is extremely fast, especially considering the price. I play quite a few games and have been very pleased by the performance. I haven't run any benchmarks but am confident it will easily handle anything that's out there right now. You will not find anything much faster at this size and price.

The screen is excellent, the viewing angles are very good horizontally and not bad vertically. Glare has been a non issue. Having full HD on a 15" screen seems like it might be excessive but I wouldn't have it any other way.

The keyboard feels great, I love having a full keypad but some may not as it 'shifts' the rest of the keyboard over. The keys are illuminated, but I see the light leaking from between the keys and chassis more than anything else, so I keep the illumination off. The track pad isn't bad, it isn't as nice as the track pad you'll find on Apple machines but better than most track pads I've used. The overall build quality is good, the machine feels very sturdy. The display hinge is very strong, perhaps even too strong. The sound is alright, admittedly I haven't used the small subwoofer that is included, I use headphones most the time.

The battery life is decent when considering the speed of the machine. You should be able to expect 3-4 hours of battery life on the battery saving mode. The machine is almost silent even when under heavy loads, the vent puts out a decent amount of hot air but the palm rests stay cool.

The machine is a bit big when compared to some other similar machines out there, namely the Samsung Series 7 and Sony VAIO S. I originally bought the Samsung, I returned it due to several defects in the screen, but even without the defects I found that display to be too poor to justify purchasing a second.HP Omni 100-5130UK, Acer Aspire Z3700, Lenovo C320, HP TouchSmart Elite, VIBOX Standard, Chillblast Fusion Home, Alienware X51, Zoostorm 7877-0094, HP Omni 27-1080ea, Fujitsu Esprimo E500, AMD BULLDOZER, Packard Bell imedia, HP s5-1020uk, HP h9-1040uk, HP Compaq 8200, VIBOX Burner, OVERCLOCKED AMD , HP H9-1033uk, Lenovo Q180, Acer X4610G, MICROSOFT Xbox 360, Lenovo C320, Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge, Packard Bell imedia, Zoostorm 7877-0138 , Acer Aspire Z5771 , Acer Veriton X2610, VIBOX Stealth Package, GAMING PC INTEL, Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge, OVERCLOCKED AMD, HP p6-2190ea , HP p6-2140ea, HP HPE h8-1250ea, Lenovo B320 , Zoostorm 7877-0090, MESH Home PC, Apple Mac Pro, Lenovo B320, VERY FAST GAMING, eMachines EL1330, GAMING PC AMD , GAMING PC INTEL, Apple Mac Pro , Zoostorm 7877-0191, HP p6-2060uk, Acer Aspire Z5801, HP 610-1230uk, Apple Mac Mini , Apple iMac, MSI AE2050-027UK, VIBOX Bravo, OVERCLOCKED AMD

Overall I highly, highly recommend this laptop. If you are highly mobile and need something thinner or with more than 3-4 hours of battery life there are better options. Otherwise I don't believe this machine can be beat.

One last note, the machine does come with a lot of crap installed. You're even forced into accepting the user agreement for the bing toolbar to use the machine for the first time. I did a clean install of windows. I suppose because the usb ports are all 3.0 they will not work until the proper drivers are installed. If you did not wipe the drive you will find all the drivers you need in C:\eSupport\eDriver, otherwise you will have to burn them to a CD to get usb support/networking back.

I am an experienced pc user. I was looking for a sleek, stylish, and most importantly powerful laptop to replace my previous laptop (a massive and obnoxiously heavy 17.3in gateway FX gaming laptop).

THe exterior is a work of art. The sleek lines, and very solid aluminum exterior leave nothing to want for.

The performance is very good. I wiped the computer right off the bat, and replaced the hard drive with a Crucial M4 solid state drive and I get 12 second boots consistently. Thats 12 second boots, not waking from stand-by.

The built in "instant-on" feature actually works as advertised. I am usually very wary of such voodoo from manufacturers trying to boost sales, but for the short time I had the stock hard drive in, it would truly wake up in 2 seconds. Plus, the other feature that comes with that software can give you absurd standby battery life. It claims right now that I can leave it in standby for 120 days before it runs out of battery. I have yet to test this, but considering they did not lie with 2 second wake-up, I believe it.

Speaking of manufacturer voodoo, I was expecting the supersonic soundmaster extreme or whatever they are calling it to be pointless, but the mini subwoofer actually helps a ton! These are the best laptop speakers I have seen, or heard rather, ever. They are still laptop speakers though, and I will still use a good set of external speakers, or headphones, when I'm listening to music.

The graphics performance is good. I can run Shift 2 Unleashed at all max fluidly. I haven't tried skyrim but I expect it to be pretty good. The screen is beautiful, one of the best I have ever seen in a 15in laptop. The keyboard has good feel, and the backlight is good (Not great, there is some bleeding around the keys and I have seen better).

The portability is what you would expect from a 15in laptop. It isn't exceptionally light, but is certainly portable.

My one complaint is that the size of the screws used on some of the components is ridiculously small, but unless you plan on serious upgrading or modding then this shouldn't affect you.

I am very very happy with this PC, and I would recommend it to anyone (and with the ssd it blows anything else out of the water). If you are considering a mac, stop, and buy this. It has all the aesthetics, is cheaper, and equally/more powerful.

Let me begin by first establishing that I'm a 20 year old college student who uses his computer for the usual school things as well as gaming/entertainment. The Asus N56vz is the PERFECT compromise between fun and efficiency. Though the specs aren't top TOP line for a gaming computer, keep in mind that this was not designed for dedicated gaming. Keeping this in mind, however, the Asus N56 is plenty capable of holding its own in a gaming environment.
