Opened in 1958 after the founder of the company, Leslie P. Sussman, took the first Boeing Jet Airplane trip from Seattle, Washington to Japan, JET began as a small dealer that sold air hoists and trolleys out of a single hardware store in Seattle. The Jet 3-speed air filtration systems clean and circulate the air in your shop while you work, filtering 98-99 of all particles, five microns in size and 85 of particles one micron in size. And with the timer, you come into your shop, set the timer for two, four or eight hours and forget it. The system automatically shuts down at the time youve set. They use a convenient standard size outer filter, run quietly and come with a remote control for convenience.Grabs 98 of anything from 5 microns up in size and 89 of single micron size particles. Prefilter is 5 micron. Inner filter is 1 micron. Outer filter is a disposable electrostatic filter with a paper frame. Units are designed to be set on a workbench or hung from the ceiling, either tight against the ceiling or hanging from chains. Eyebolts are in place for hanging the unit. The three pocket filter fits inside, and can be blown out. Filters are easily replaced, without tools. The powder coated metal box is heavy duty. Fan and motor are also constructed for durability. Two easy grip handles inset on both sides for ease of handling. Quiet running so it can be left on during work. Model AFS-1000B is 1044 CFM and has 3 speed: 550, 702 and 1044 CFM. The AFS-1000B can filter the air in a 20 x 20 x 8 shop in under five minutes, and filter the air in that size shop a dozen times an hour. Includes a paper filter.

I received this Jet Air Filter, and got it installed about two weeks later. As I was installing it on the ceiling, I heard something loose inside the box. I removed the two filters, and with a magnet on a stick was able to pull the loose object out, it was a bolt. From the filter end, most everything inside is on the far end of the filter (hard to see or reach). I looked in the small opening where the air blows out on the opposite side of the unit, and on top I could see three holes, two had bolts sticking out, the other was missing a bolt.
I don't know whether this is the only loose bolt, or if all the rest are loose and about to fall out too. I decided to contact Jet via their web form. A couple weeks later, no response. I checked my SPAM folder, nothing from Jet. I went back to their web page and noticed an email for customer support, so tried that, and a couple days later received a reply. I could either bring the unit down to a place that was pretty far away, or they would let me get a refund. I pulled the unit from the ceiling, and while I had it down, removed the air filters, and saw the bolt looked a little difficult, I thought I could get it back in, and it only took a couple minutes. I tightened two of the other bolts that I could reach, and it's as good as new.

I just have a small shop, so far I just use it on low speed. The remote works good. I'll update the review as I get into a heavier sanding project and let you know how it's working, but I suspect it will clear the air of dust very quickly.
I took off one star because of the initial issue, but I suspect that could have been caused in shipping. In actual use, the air filter is going to work great I'm pretty sure.
This filter does a very good job. Mine was damaged in shipment, (it is fairly heavy),but I was able to fix it myself. My only suggestion is to make it more user friendly. The wireless controller works okay but the timer controls (for auto shut off) are in the back (exhaust) side of the unit. Access to the back of the unit is difficult in my basement shop. Why not make it so the user could easily mount the timer control on either the left or right side of the unit? This, or have factory mounted dual control panels. We bought this in 2008 so next month will be four years of using it. It has always done a good job of cleaning the air. I couldn't decide on four or five stars for this, so I went with four based on just a couple of negative items. The filters are rather expensive. They do have washable ones, and it looks like it may be included with the unit now. When I bought mine it was an extra cost. The charcoal filters are good for filtering vapors, but again, they are expensive. The unit is very heavy so mounting it on the ceiling takes some work (on the other hand, I wouldn't want it to be cheaply made, I get the compromise there). It is rather noisy on high, and overall while it moves a decent amount of air I've seen better (but they also cost more). |
